The "Down-Low" on "What's Up"!!                                               2016 06 01
Becoming Clearer...

Coming Into Focus...

To be quite honest, procrastination has been hindering the publication of a complete tree.
But not all procrastinations are bad. The time has been spent building more names within it.
Among other things, the format of mother-to-mother recording was implemented and new lines.

Why Wait?
To develop a systematic method of bringing all members in the tree to the same level of reporting.
When you view a family tree online, everyone in it has approximately the same informational format.
Whatever that is, the reader can flow from one member to another and already know what to expect.

Uniformity is what is strived for, but all information for each member is not necessarily available.
At least, not at first glimpse when finding heritage lines, which is the primary focus is the line itself.

So until a working plan could be developed, the collection of more names was the plan.
But that method yeilds a growing tree-and problem! More names to "even up"!
This months update to the tree shows there are just under 7100 names.

What did we come up with?

There are two methods worth considering before begining the posting process.
The first is to record every piece of data already collected and stored in their files.
The other is to even up just the basic data like dates for birth/death/marriage/etc...

The former is very time consuming and slower to gain numbers.
The latter yeilds a higher pace of gaining numbers, but less data reported.

While it seems simpler to just do basics, then go back and get remaining data, it's risky.
There is always the chance that the webpage or website may be removed or in-accessable.
That's already been the case as from time to time a second look is needed, yet not available.

What's The Next Step?
So in the interest of securing data, most likely it will be total collection per person that wins out.
There are only a few family pods left in the current sector to secure data from before starting.

Once data publishing commences, new members will slow to only those for completing families.
New family members will not be added to the mother lines, but only to the already existing families.

Some exceptions to that rule may be as follows:
If someone needs their branch updated/filled, we can work on that area for general purposes.
Also, things like new-found members of family pods should be added, and things of that nature.

The reason? Time. More accurately, "Manhours".
Here's the math:
7000 members taking one minute per piece of data found and added equals 116.66667 manhours.
If you estimate 116.66667 manhours "times" 20 data pieces each, you get 2333 manhours!

In light of this, it seems prudent to have a plan.
So the "plan" is to bring all members to equal standing on the basics, then add any personal extras.
At that point in time, it can begin again adding new members and lines to expand the tree.
When a schedule of tree updating is implemented, it will be posted here to help all.

For an idea of the types of things that go into a file, see the Family Tree Demo.
Check The Family Tree Report and The Census Report for monthly updates!

When you're ready to add the support to do your own verifying, purchase the census files on CD's.
Because verifying is the key to accuracy, and accuracy is what makes your tree valid.
Good luck, have fun and enjoy!

The L-Pages...

L-Page characters are chosen in connection with the others being added to the family tree.
This way, we see how family relationships grew, and the roles they played within their families.
As a bonus, the family tree flow-chart grows monthly without having any gaps or "orphan pages".

This months subject: Louis Lizotte 1793-1877.
Follow along every month for new stories, and be sure to add the subjects to your tree!

Newest Pages...

New page ideas are posted here whenever they're inserted.
Suggest a topic if you like!

"Projects" is a new page added to the Census CD's tab showing more ways to use the CD's!
In the future there will be pictures added to the descriptions for visualizing them as well!
For now, it's a way of helping you get more uses from the CD purchases you make!
Definitely worth a look!

"Searching" is another new page under the Census CD Tab/Section.
There seems to be a need for some initial instructions on how to use the CD's.
It explains the basic differences between a database search and a search for documents.
Worth the two minutes of reading so you understand!

"Research"
is a complete section of its own, and presently has several exciting new pages emerging.
These topics are related to any family tree, and should be of use while researching your ancestry.
They are investigation spin-offs, ongoing and under construction, but noteworthy of mention.

Improving The Website...

Sometimes, it may take days and days just to make a very small item work properly on the web.

So this is the where even minor adjustments get to shine in the spotlight for their 15 minutes of fame!

Census File Pages...

The census file pages are re-designed. Welcome changes for the tens of thousands to choose from!
This table layout gives the fastest reference to the year/state/county enumeration census files.
Click on the design link above for an example of how they are being done (1830 is shown).

The census data files for 1830 have been sorted and added to the availability list.
Check the link for all up-to-date listings evry month. If you don't see it, just ask!

As ideas and knowledge grow, so will the site.
